MSc Cleantech Innovation is a programme developed by Imperial College London’s world-leading departments within the fields of design engineering, sustainability, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Devised to discover and develop a new generation of entrepreneurs that can find the answers to the world’s environmental challenges, the MSc in Cleantech Innovation will bring together innovators, engineers and creatives within a programme where they can develop an entrepreneurial mindset and work together on a sustainability startup that will be developed within London’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and pitched to investors.

What students will get from studying on the MSc in Cleantech Innovation

The unique programme aims to provide students with the skills of a cleantech entrepreneur, addressing the most pressing environmental and climate challenges our planet is facing through leveraging cleantech research for innovation.

  • Develop a deep understanding of the technical aspects of climate change challenges
  • Work and collaborate with leading designers, engineers and scientists within cleantech
  • Work as a team to found a new startup focused on tackling climate challenges

Are you a UK student looking for potential scholarship opportunities for this programme? The Industrial Design Studentships provide a scholarship that covers tuition fees, plus a stipend of £13,000 per year for successful applicants.

Entry requirements

Our minimum entry requirement is a 2.1 UK Honours degree (or equivalent) in a Science, Technology or Engineering discipline (or a comparable qualification recognised by the College). Applications from the areas of Design Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design are encouraged!

Non-academic requirements

Candidates, who don’t hold a degree in a Science, Technology or Engineering discipline, but hold a 2.1 UK Honours degree in other disciplines and fulfil one or more of the following are encouraged to apply:

  • a genuine passion for sustainability and engineering that is evidenced through a variety of extracurricular, impactful projects
  • demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities in a startup or corporate environment
  • have an evidenced track record of producing innovation
  • display excellency through esteemed awards in any of the following areas: design engineering, engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental studies, design, sustainability and science, climate science

Deep.Meta

Modern steel plants are equipped with vast numbers of sensors. Deep.Meta’s software optimises production by harnessing their data to create digital versions of potential defects. This enables real-time insights to warn operators of casting cracks, or where target-properties won’t be achieved in a rolling schedule. These don’t require expensive hardware upgrades and are different from machine maintenance software, as it detects and characterises specific metallurgical defects.

Multus

Multus is a team of scientists and engineers who believe that tackling the short-comings of conventional livestock farming is critical to securing a sustainable future. They are developing the key ingredient, the growth media, to make cultivated meat affordable and profitable, to provide a truly sustainable alternative to today’s global dependence on traditional animal farming.

The Tyre Collective

The Tyre Collective is a cleantech company founded in 2020 by Hanson, Hugo and Siobhan with a vision to reduce our impact on the environment by capturing tyre wear.

Fibe

FIBE is a materials start-up developing the world’s first textile fibres out of potato harvest waste.

Seratech

MSc Cleantech Innovation and Imperial Enterprise Lab

The MSc in Cleantech Innovation has worked closely with the experts at Imperial Enterprise Lab to devise a curriculum at the forefront of entrepreneurship. Director of Entrepreneurship at Imperial College London, Ben Mumby-Croft, will be teaching on the course and sharing all he has learnt from his years of experience in entrepreneurial education and working within London’s startup ecosystem.
